How To Write A Best Man Toast

Product ImageIf you belong to the majority of the male population you either are really scared as soon as the words best man toast are uttered or you would love to do such a speech but do not know how to write one. First, think about this: a best man toast is an honor and you should give the best you can do. Why? Just because you’re the best man and the bride and groom put you in that position because they saw you fit for that task. Now you do see your situation in a different light?

So how do you write a great best man toast? It has to be well structured of course. How do you make a speech well structured? Here are three things to consider and follow.

The Introduction

Every speech needs an introduction. Don’t start with the middle of your speech. If you do, you miss out on warming the audience and at the same time your speech seems terribly unprepared.

Keep your introduction brief, concise and a little fun. Short and concise will do but you’ll earn extra points for jokes. If you opt for an intro without the entertaining part don’t beat around the bush. Before you know it people will be bored, you lose their attention and your best man toast will flop.

The Body

Here you should put your advice and suggestions for the couple, opinions on them as people and such. Here you can decide to be serious or interject a joke or two. In this part, never be afraid to put on a serious face, as is the point where everyone wants to hear what the best man really thinks about this marriage.

When you talk about the bride and groom make them look good. Making them sweet and romantic, even if they are not, was not hurt anybody.

The Summary

Wrapping up your best man toast must be clean and fast. Giving out your best wishes for the couple is a must. One easy way to say your congratulations is to tell them how much confidence you have that their marriage will last for a lifetime. Very lastly, you must propose a toast, so that everyone can raise their glasses.

  1. The trick is to adapt a short best man speech. I found this site extremely helpful (and not trying to sell me something, which is nice):

The example is nicely written, runs about 4 minutes and follows the 3 “S” rule: Short, Sincere, Sober
