Giving a speech in front of a large crowd is one of the most difficult things you will ever have to do. Public speaking is not easy, some people make it look that way. So what is the secret of people who can get up and give a speech so easily? The first thing is probably the most important. Practice. Write an outline of your speech and practice in the mirror. The second most important thing is to be organized and ready when you are summoned to the podium.

Before you stand up in front of a room full of people, you should familiarize yourself with the people. Walk around the room and introduce yourself, greet people as they arrive. This way, when you get up to the podium to deliver your speech, the people in the room will at least recognize you as someone they have met and you may yourself feel more at ease having introduced yourself to these people.

Remember that the audience is listening to you, and they want to hear what you have to say. Speak loudly enough for everyone to hear, try to keep a moderate pace, don’t race through, and speak clearly. An important tool for connecting with your audience is eye contact. Before you get up to speak, you should make sure that you have some cue cards which you prepared previously, outlining the major points you want to cover. If you need reading glasses, make sure you have them with you.
